So let us introduce you to one of the most popular monuments, that many tourists (local or foreign) would not miss when visiting Phuket, the Phra Puttamingmongkol Akenakkiri Buddha, nicknamed ‘Big Buddha’.
A large majestic 45 meters high and 25 meters wide statue built from white Burmese jade marble in the mixed architectural style of Thai-Chinese that can even be seen from the Phuket Town on a clear day, Big Buddha has become one of the most prominent and revered landmarks of Phuket and a place that many deem a ‘must visit’ location during their stay on the island. Built on top of the Nakkerd Hills, you will find that the monument doesn’t only offer a place of worship to Buddhist, but it also offers a relaxing atmosphere that let you take a break from the vibrant beaches and towns of Phuket and the best 360-degree views of the island, with sweeping vistas of Phuket Town, Kata, Karon, Chalong Bay and more.
Please remember that Big Buddha is a place of worship and there is a dress code to enter. Big Buddha opens from 6 AM – 7 PM every day. No entry fee is required. The landmark is located on the Nakkerd Hills — between Kata and Chalong — with the road leading up to the Big Buddha is off Chao Fa Road East near Chalong.
